Indoor/Outdoor Performing Arts Pavilion

Mason City, Iowa

DESCRIPTION

Accord Architecture has been awarded a project in Mason City, IA that involves a unique and exciting structure serving as both an outdoor pavilion and indoor pavilion.  The City of Mason City is known for it’s Band Festival each year.  This performing arts pavilion celebrates that rich history.  This project involves the demolition of a portion of the Southbridge Mall in Mason City, where it meets an existing pedestrian plaza near the famous Park Inn Hotel.

Accord’s design includes a large cantilevered roof structure inclining at a slight angle to serve as the roof over the outdoor pavilion.  On the inside of the mall and immediately behind the outdoor pavilion, the design includes a ceiling and angled sidewalls to serve as a stage area for performances.  Performances will range from Jr. High bands playing many instruments, to a single singer, to a rock and roll or country band.

Mason City is also known for a number of Prairie Style buildings such as the Park Inn Hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, so our pavilion design incorporates patterned steel back-lit with LED lighting to incorporate elements of Prairie Style architecture.

CURRENT STATUS

Design is underway with anticipated bidding in the first quarter of 2020.
