Parker Opera House
Mason City, Iowa
DESCRIPTION
Throughout Iowa, Accord Architecture is recognized as a leader int he delivery of historic renovation and adaptive reuse projects. This trend continued as Accord provided design services on Mason City’s downtown Parker Opera House, originally constructed in 1883. In the 1990’s, Accord designed the Central Park Dentistry on the main level of this building for the same owner. The project scope included historic rehabilitation of the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Parker Opera House building, which was said to have a seating capacity of 800 at one time. The 11,000 square feet of renovated space encompasses 13 apartments for lower income housing. All windows were replaced, including a new side entrance that brings the appearance back to the original state. The continued restoration of existing and historic Mason City Buildings by Accord has led to a successful revitalization of the community’s downtown district.
